Our Mission
Statement:
The Nebraska Sudanese Association (NSA) aims to unify and uplift the Sudanese population in Nebraska through various roles such as advocacy, education, and community events. Any and all persons of age and ethnicities are welcome to join the organization. We strive to act as the official organizational body of action for community based events and policy making interactions with city and state leaders.
Goals:

"I joined NSA because I want to bridge the gap between community engagement and productive policy. NSA represents an eager generation of young Sudanese individuals who want to drive the unity of a fragmented community with focus areas in education, advocacy, and representation."

What change do you hope NSA creates?
"I joined NSA because I wanted to help build a community that supports each other. I also wanted to help bring awareness to the crisis in Sudan. I find myself passionate about educational advancement and youth mentorship and I believe NSA can help push that goal. I also hope to make a meaningful contributions in advocacy efforts, support humanitarian initiatives, and help build a stronger community."

Why is NSA important to your identity?
“I joined the Nebraska Sudanese Association (NSA) because I wanted to be part of a strong and connected Sudanese community. Sudan is a central part of my identity, and I never want to lose that connection. Through NSA, we can bring people together not only socially, but also through education, advocacy, and cultural preservation, ensuring that younger generations cherish and carry forward their heritage. I want everyone in our community to feel seen, supported, and at home a true home away from home."

Why support the next generation?
"I joined NSA because I’ve always had a passion to help our younger generation through the challenges many of us have faced. Being Sudanese and Muslim in America is already hard, not feeling like you fit in and your parents can’t even understand you. With that being said I want a hub available for everyone in our community to come feel supported, home away from home. Community engagement is one of our core values back home and I want to bring it here!"

Why build a stronger foundation for NSA?
"I joined NSA as a young Sudanese trying to help the youth prepare for the future. I want for there to be an environment for them to be successful. As a member in the Sudanese community I feel there could be a better structure, number of events, etc.. I want the youth to have good role models and the best foundation overall set for them to look up to and keep striving for greatness."

What progress does NSA represent for you?
“ I started Nebraska Sudanese Association to bring Sudanese families, students, and youth together in a state where many of us grew up scattered and disconnected. After watching everything unfold back home and feeling how heavy it was to carry that alone, I wanted to build something rooted in community. NSA is a space for culture, advocacy, and support right here in Nebraska.”

Why does belonging matter for you?
"I wanted our youth and any Sudanese person here to feel like they belong to something bigger than themselves. I know how easy it is to feel disconnected or like you’re figuring everything out alone. I didn’t want that for our community. I wanted NSA to be a space where people feel seen, supported, and understood."
